Welcome to the Jungle
Who: Luca and you! (Also one closed prompt for Reaper)
What: Various Jumanji prompts, plus non-event prompts with Luca swimming either in the ocean or, on the full moon night, in the Salt Lake and one closed prompt of him stealing from Reaper
When: Throughout the month
Where: In the jungle, in the ocean, in the Salt Lake, in Reaper's room
Content Warnings: A child drinking blood in the Reaper prompt, discussion of corruption in all prompts, a child being hunted in the Van Pelt prompt
Event Prompts
Rushing Rivers - OTA
He rolls the dice. His piece moves. And then...
'Every month at the quarter moon there'll be a monsoon in your lagoon.'
"Well, at least that sounds like something I..." And then he sees the size of the water rushing towards him. "Oh, carp."
Instantly he's swept away. Of course, of all the people who could be caught in something like this, Luca's better off than most. Sure, he's an ocean creature, not a river creature, but his species are nothing if not adaptable. They can change to survive on land, they can change to survive in the deep ocean, and like bull sharks and mollies and other highly adaptable fish, he's not going to die just because he's in fresh water, even though he wouldn't prefer it.
He might, however, die if he gets beaten to death against the rocks. He fears this might happen when the rush of water first cascades into him, smashing his body into what was now a river bed several times. His body instantly changes into his sea monster form, and while that doesn't save him from the initial battering he receives from the coursing river, his tail does give him an advantage in trying to gain some control. After getting bruised, scraped and battered against rocks and roots below him, Luca manages to get his tail moving and manages to work his way up, moving higher in the water as he goes, when he spots someone else trapped in the same situation. Someone who likely doesn't have gills.
Having managed to gain some control of his movement in the water, Luca manages to swim to the other person, grabbing them tightly and hoping that having someone grapple them when they're already struggling in the water won't make them panic and push him off. After all, he needs to get them to the surface.
Trophy Hunter - OTA
It's not the first time he's been hunted. It's not even the first time in the Trench he's been hunted. Not after that month where Darkbloods had the urge to hunt Vilebloods. Then of course, there was back home with Ercole hunting him. Home where there had been a 200,000 lira reward for dead sea monsters. He's terrified, but at the same time he knows how to do this, and he was determined to survive.
Luca doesn't make a sound, but simply scurries away from where he last saw Van Pelt, ears pricked for any sign that he's near. Spotting a mess of vines and ferns, he immediately gets down, covering himself in plant life to avoid being spotted. Not a moment too soon, either, because shortly after that he hears footsteps. When the other person approaches, though, he realizes that this isn't Van Pelt. If they happen to catch a glimpse of Luca, his finger will slowly rise to his lips, trying to shush them before they give their location away.
All Other Jumanji Prompts – OTA
When he sees the other person roll the dice, he watches, eyes wide, body tense in anticipation of some new horror he'll have to face. Luca's already been through so much with this, but he knows the only way to conquer it is to keep going, and that the sooner they face everything they have to face in this game, the sooner it can be over.
As he watches the piece move itself to it's new spot, Luca finally asks, "So...what's it say?"
He doesn't know if he'll understand it. He doesn't know if he'll have enough time after hearing what it says to do anything before the game does whatever it's going to do. Still, he wants any edge he can get in trying to prepare. He knows that even a split second of an advantage in this game can be the difference between life and death.
Non-Event Prompts
The Ocean – OTA
After everything that happened in the game, Luca can feel corruption creeping into his mind. He hasn't begun to physically change yet, but with the way he's flowed in and out of corruption lately, he's become familiar with it's shadow creeping in. The increased hunger for blood, the impulsivity, the feelings of shame and disgust with himself. The fear and paranoia. He's managing to keep it at bay, though.
He knows, of course, that he should go to his housemates to talk about it like Varian said, but it's harder once he begins to feel it's pull. Ultimately, he decides he'll try and relax. Try and get his mind off of things. Maybe try to remember various corruption remedies he might have heard or read about during his time here. And all this starts with going to the ocean.
Though he is curious about the land and loves it, at the end of the day, he is a creature of the sea and being near the ocean gives him a sense of familiarity and comfort. Besides, it's finally getting warmer. Sure, it's not warm enough yet that most people would consider it reasonable weather for a swim, but it's warm enough that the water shouldn't feel colder than a typical Ligurian winter, and seeing as he's used to being in the water year round, that means that the ocean should be just fine for him.
He's had some custom swimming attire made for just this sort of situation, since he'd been advised of the issues with regularly swimming in his clothes, and he strips down to a Victorian style swim suit and dives right in. Of course, he's had overlapping seams put in so he'd have a hidden opening for his tail, only visible when it grew in to fill the gap, so once he hits the water and changes to his sea monster form he's able to do so without damaging his clothing.
Once in the water, he begins to swim away from the shore, looking around at various objects and debris underwater, searching for anything he might be able to slip into a pocket to use for trade later, or perhaps a sea cucumber to snack on. He doesn't go far from the shore. He doesn't want to risk going too far from other people if he runs into trouble, after all. Still, he's careful to avoid fishing boats or crowded areas, and manages to avoid being spotted until he heads back to the dock to deposit his various rocks and other pretty things in one of the pockets of his discarded clothing before searching for more. That's when he spots someone looking at him.
"Oh. Um. Hi." He waits for a response, unsure of how they're going to react.
Baby shark, doo-doo, doo-doo – Closed to Reaper
He's managed to keep the corruption at bay until now, but he decides he really should go back to the house to talk about the problems he's experiencing. He gets derailed on that mission, though, when he passes Reaper's room. He doesn't know what it is at first, only that he smells something...tantalizing. He pauses by Reaper's door, taking in a deep breath, inhaling the scent. It's amazing.
At first he reasons that Reaper must have cooked something and taken it back to his room. After all, he's an amazing cook, and most of his food elicits a very similar reaction from Luca. But no, he realizes, it doesn't smell like Reaper's cooking usually does at all. It smells like blood.
Instantly concerned that Reaper might be hurt in there, Luca suddenly opens the door, "Reaper, are you--"
Then he realizes. No one is in there.
He knows it's foolish to enter Reaper's room. And yet, the smell draws him in. He can't resist it. He finds himself taking step after step further into the room. It makes sense, he assures himself, there's blood in Reaper's room and he needs to know what's going on. But that's not true and he knows it. He doesn't need to know Reaper's secret at all. He probably doesn't even want to know why there's blood in Reaper's room. He realizes as he pulls vials of blood from between the mattresses and begins to down the first one that he's only doing this because he's hungry.
Once the taste of blood fills his mouth, he doesn't even care that that's the reason. He's so lost drinking vial after vial that he doesn't even notice when Reaper returns to his room.
Salt Lake on a Full Moon Night – OTA
After the incident and....everything with Reaper, Luca realizes, as he stares at the full moon wondering what kind of monster he's become, that he needs to get this under control. Thankfully, he remembers the Salt Lake, and how he's heard it can heal corruption. It's exactly what he needs, and the idea of swimming again in the warm, pink, salty water sounds nice even just for the sake of being able to swim in it.
Soon anyone visiting the Salt Lake will find one more saltwater creature splashing around in it's waters as Luca strips down to his swimsuit and dives right in. He can already feel the weight and stress of his corruption lift as his sanity is slowly restored. Before long, from the sheer relief of it all, he finds himself laughing and leaping out of the water, chasing fish around and overall enjoying every moment of his saltwater bath.

Trophy Hunter
Being hunted in the middle of jungle is somewhat new but ever since this game started, every step he takes feels like something will jump him out of nowhere and try to murder him. A human doing that is also a surprise, but again - not new.
He has to wonder about that gun... Ghouls are naturally risilient to human weapons, but he doesn't want to see if Van Pelt's gun is magical. There is a huge chance it is, though, so Kaneki is currently hiding away, hoping not to be found.
That's when he comes face to face with Luca, blinking. Oh no... A child was caught in this as well? That's awful--
(that means he needs to protect this kid, if he can)
Regardless, Kaneki nods back at Luca and without saying a word, he stays very still, watching the hunter. Hopefully he is just human and can't smell them or something like that.]

Oh so slowly, Kaneki pokes out his head, trying to see where the man is. No sight of him, thankfully. ]
I think we are safe for now. Are you alright?
no subject
Yeah. Terrified, but fine. It's okay, though. I've dealt with stuff like this before, and everything worked out.

And blood made him feel better. He had been coming apart at the seams more and more since Maul and he had had their fights. It had happened before when he used his powers too much, but this was far more random and the pain was returning as it did before coming to Trench. It clouded his judgment, but blood put him back to rights, accelerated his regeneration. Of course it would. The Flesh Door and Deer Country was a dream that utilized blood magic heavily, so it made sense.
He'd started with corrupted beasts, which was a couple vials of the blood. But then he began to buy some blood on the Black Market for emergency purposes. Those too were stuck under his bed because the freshest blood directly from the source had the greatest effect for him. It made him feel alive like a ghost of a memory of after the SEP trials when everything seemed possible.
As a rule, the occupants of Disaster House were very respectful of his room rules. Door closed, anyone could come in and moved around. Door closed, keep out. So imagine his surprise when the door was ajar when he returned home after a little... ah, adventure hunting a Sleeper and taking just a small amount of their blood as a top of, just to feel better.
Suspicion immediately rang alarm bells in his head; it was Maul come for round three. It had to be. His mind churned with bitter anger and hurt, and while he was aware of it, he ignored how thick tendrils of smoke curled from around the edges of his mask and pulled from his shoulders as he quietly approached his door and ghosted his way inside. Maybe it was time for Maul to make him feel good again, take a little from the Zabrak as had been taken from....
"Luca..." he said in surprise when he saw the young sea monster in his room. Then his eyes took in the scene of empty vials, the scent of blood in the air and yes, that was the kid drinking his emergency supply like it was fresh made lemonade on a hot summer day. "There aren't many left under the bed, I imagine." His stance changed, anger bleeding to curiosity. Were they the same?
no subject
Luca stares at Reaper. Then looks down at the empty vial in his had. Oh, carp. He knows he's not supposed to just go into someone's room uninvited like that. He knows that Reaper of all people is likely the person who least wants people in his room. Now he's not only in here, he's stealing.
"I'm so sorry! I don't know what I was thinking! I wasn't thinking. I just smelled the blood and I kind of...lost control."
And he gorged himself on blood that Reaper had been collecting.
"And...no. There's not."
He just went through it like it was nothing.
no subject
"You have an excellent sense of smell," he remarked at the confirmation, not that he needed it. Everything was obvious, but he found knowing Luca could smell corked and hidden blood from the hallway was intriguing. He hadn't given the kid nearly as much credit before.
"There's more where that came from, you know," he said simply. "But it takes a lot more work than sniffing out vials between mattresses. Would you like a lesson?"
no subject
This is hard to admit, but if Reaper has the same thing...
"I kind of went on a feeding frenzy."
He knows it's gross and disturbing and unsettling, but he figures it's good to admit. Besides, it seems like he's not the only one. Would he like a lesson? Well, if the sniffing out blood is part of his power, he might as well practice with it, right?
"Yeah, I'd like a lesson."

But now that wasn't the point. The point was Minako keeping quiet and when she saw the other she simply nodded, fully understanding what he meant. Keep quiet so he cannot find them for now. But as she slowly made her way over she found herself pausing for a moment before she really, really needed to say something.
"Can I just ask a really random question before I help with how to avoid getting shot? Do you or do not you see mushrooms?" The life of a Purebood was sure something sometimes.
no subject
That's where he's usually spotted mushrooms while living in the Trench, after all.
no subject
"Okay so avoiding the guy shooting. It's not easy, but possible to get away. It just takes a lot of work and being super sneaky."
no subject
It didn't take much to realize he should avoid the guy shooting, after all, and Luca's already trying to be sneaky and very much aware that it's difficult and absolutely terrifying.

Once there, she watched Luca swimming around, and could feel that he was getting better, regaining his senses and losing some of his corruption. She settled down by the shore and watched him, feeling a shared sense of ease at losing the apprehension that had been building in him, and when she thought about it, her own self.
She was respectful though, and knew that he'd sense her there soon enough].
no subject
Hi, Luz! The water's really nice here. You should try swimming in it sometime! But only when it's pink like this.
[He's heard people shouldn't swim in it when it's gross and filled with dead, rotting fish, like it is when the full moon isn't shining on it. Not that he needed to be told. He wouldn't have wanted to swim in water that looked like that, anyway.]
no subject
[Actually, Luz was wearing her suit, and at the suggestion jumped in, then popped up, gasping].
It's c-c-cold!
[She looked pretty excited about it though].
no subject
[The water's really a huge help. Then she jumps in and...oh, he didn't think of that.]
Oh, sorry. I didn't think of that. I mean, it's warm enough now that I can swim in it, but the weather now is pretty much like the coldest part of winter back home.
[Which of course he can swim in the winter back home, what else would he have done? Humans, on the other hand, are mainly land creatures and don't tend to go in the water when it's not summer. Still, he doesn't feel too bad about it. She knows what season it is, and she seems pretty excited about it anyway.]
It's pretty great, though, isn't it?

The Ocean (cw: demonic features, depression)
This time, it's physically that he looks like a demon. There are a pair of large black horns sprouting from his head, and a long, thin, scaly black tail. It's... certainly concerning, but Peter's mostly grateful that he hasn't lost himself mentally yet, because that's the true horror. Though he can't help wondering how long it might be before he ends up like he was last time: some snarling, feral thing with black-stained eyes.
But he's also just... tired, and maybe he simply can't find the strength to be too upset about his recent demonic attributes. A familiar, listless melancholy grows in Peter. The one where you're more empty than sad, where hours pass by and you can't remember what it was you were doing.
Peter fully recognises this in himself, and he knows the danger of falling too deeply into it. So he does at least try to find some ways to grasp peace, and... something keeps nagging at the back of his mind, a soft but persistent concept. Something that's always brought Paimon comfort and stability. The demon used to go to the lake and pond all the time back in Deerington. He has a connection with water; it's his associated element and several of his powers are even meant to function exclusively in the water.
And maybe it's because more of Paimon has trickled into him by now (it's becoming harder to tell where one ends and the other begins), but Peter finds himself heading to the beach. He walks across the black sands for awhile, before making his way out to the dock, bag slung over one shoulder. Once there, Peter gingerly sets his bag down, peels off his shoes and socks, and sits on the edge, feet slipping into the dark water. His tail dips into the water too, gently swirling over its surface. Almost immediately, he feels a sense of comfort, like this is where he's supposed to be.
Something nags at him to go in, but he doesn't yet. He's battling against that comfort a little, because the human part of him is scared. Scared to go in there. Scared to give in. So he's just sitting there for awhile until he spots someone. Peter's eyes widen at the sight of the entity — some sort of fish person?
"Oh.... Hi." He says, awkwardly. He's not too scared, because the person looks pretty young, but he's always going to be an anxious type person. So the older teen tenses a bit, suddenly self-conscious of his own demonic appearance. His tail flips from the water with a little splash and curls up beside him on the dock, almost shyly. "What's uh... what's up?"
no subject
"Um...nothing much. Just gathering shiny rocks and things to trade in case I need anything."
Sure, he could catch fish, too, but rocks had the advantage of keeping indefinitely, though food could be useful in that it's something people are more universally likely to be interested in.
no subject
And the voice definitely sounds young. If there were any doubts this was someone on the younger side, they're quashed immediately; the person's just a kid.
"Is there a lot of stuff like that to find, down there?" Peter's eyes drift to the dark water, widening a little. "I haven't been in before. Well. Not since I was a uh. Squid."

rushing rivers and then van pelt!
the board that continued the game was lost as soon as his fingers and consciousness went limp and shut down. he now hangs under the surface, unconscious and breathing in water he shouldn’t be. he has yet to tell his lungs were burning.
he’s light in the water, at least. ]

The situation was dire from the start. Even Luca is in danger with the speed of the current, but nowhere near as much danger as Falco himself. He can control his movement to some degree with his tail, after all, and more importantly, he has gills.
Things go from bad to worse when Falco's knocked unconscious, but fortunately Luca's already darting towards him. He grabs the other kid, before swimming quickly for the surface, still pulled along by the force of the water but at least able to use his tail to direct himself up and down. Soon they're breaking the surface of the water and, spotting a large rock jutting out of the water downstream from where they are, Luca swims for it.
Once they reach it, Luca practically flings Falco onto the rock before scrambling onto it himself.]
Come on, Falco, wake up...wake up...
[He looks at Falco, worried, and not even caring that he's still in sea monster form.]

being thrown onto the jutted rock might’ve been the best for falco to even get a kick to his chest from the landing, waterlogged and laying motionless for some moments more—
before his shoulders shuttered, and he was coughing. guttural, wet, and aggressively expelling the invasion in his lungs that burned his airways on the way back up. ]

The Ocean
When he needs to try and overcome the various things that torment him mentally and physically, he comes here to the shores or the docks. To sit quietly and get some air and listen to the sound of waves… but mostly he talks to the ocean. Mariana sometimes responds, but not always. However, he always gets the sense she's listening even if she doesn't always understand or relate.
He's sitting on the docks today with very clear signs of corruption, hiding the worst with a large leather eyepatch. When Luca pops up nearby, his reaction is mild surprise.
"Well, well, well. Looks like the tables have turned."
Re: The Ocean
"Yeah! Only...not exactly the same, because I did this on purpose. It looks like you found a way to turn back, though! Can you still turn into a fish person? Or was that just part of all the weird changes people were doing at the time?"
Luca had done the shedding ceremony himself, so he's aware it's a possibility, but part of him is hoping Lance can still turn into a fish person so they can swim together.

"Yeaaah, it was part of the shedding ceremony," He looks down at the water and heaves a breath, "But, you never know, maybe I can figure out how to turn half squid or something…?"
After he says it, though, he looks like he's second guessing vocalizing that idea because it sure does sound like a sure-fire way to dunk himself into a horror show.
