Welcome to the Jungle
Who: Luca and you! (Also one closed prompt for Reaper)
What: Various Jumanji prompts, plus non-event prompts with Luca swimming either in the ocean or, on the full moon night, in the Salt Lake and one closed prompt of him stealing from Reaper
When: Throughout the month
Where: In the jungle, in the ocean, in the Salt Lake, in Reaper's room
Content Warnings: A child drinking blood in the Reaper prompt, discussion of corruption in all prompts, a child being hunted in the Van Pelt prompt
Event Prompts
Rushing Rivers - OTA
He rolls the dice. His piece moves. And then...
'Every month at the quarter moon there'll be a monsoon in your lagoon.'
"Well, at least that sounds like something I..." And then he sees the size of the water rushing towards him. "Oh, carp."
Instantly he's swept away. Of course, of all the people who could be caught in something like this, Luca's better off than most. Sure, he's an ocean creature, not a river creature, but his species are nothing if not adaptable. They can change to survive on land, they can change to survive in the deep ocean, and like bull sharks and mollies and other highly adaptable fish, he's not going to die just because he's in fresh water, even though he wouldn't prefer it.
He might, however, die if he gets beaten to death against the rocks. He fears this might happen when the rush of water first cascades into him, smashing his body into what was now a river bed several times. His body instantly changes into his sea monster form, and while that doesn't save him from the initial battering he receives from the coursing river, his tail does give him an advantage in trying to gain some control. After getting bruised, scraped and battered against rocks and roots below him, Luca manages to get his tail moving and manages to work his way up, moving higher in the water as he goes, when he spots someone else trapped in the same situation. Someone who likely doesn't have gills.
Having managed to gain some control of his movement in the water, Luca manages to swim to the other person, grabbing them tightly and hoping that having someone grapple them when they're already struggling in the water won't make them panic and push him off. After all, he needs to get them to the surface.
Trophy Hunter - OTA
It's not the first time he's been hunted. It's not even the first time in the Trench he's been hunted. Not after that month where Darkbloods had the urge to hunt Vilebloods. Then of course, there was back home with Ercole hunting him. Home where there had been a 200,000 lira reward for dead sea monsters. He's terrified, but at the same time he knows how to do this, and he was determined to survive.
Luca doesn't make a sound, but simply scurries away from where he last saw Van Pelt, ears pricked for any sign that he's near. Spotting a mess of vines and ferns, he immediately gets down, covering himself in plant life to avoid being spotted. Not a moment too soon, either, because shortly after that he hears footsteps. When the other person approaches, though, he realizes that this isn't Van Pelt. If they happen to catch a glimpse of Luca, his finger will slowly rise to his lips, trying to shush them before they give their location away.
All Other Jumanji Prompts – OTA
When he sees the other person roll the dice, he watches, eyes wide, body tense in anticipation of some new horror he'll have to face. Luca's already been through so much with this, but he knows the only way to conquer it is to keep going, and that the sooner they face everything they have to face in this game, the sooner it can be over.
As he watches the piece move itself to it's new spot, Luca finally asks, "So...what's it say?"
He doesn't know if he'll understand it. He doesn't know if he'll have enough time after hearing what it says to do anything before the game does whatever it's going to do. Still, he wants any edge he can get in trying to prepare. He knows that even a split second of an advantage in this game can be the difference between life and death.
Non-Event Prompts
The Ocean – OTA
After everything that happened in the game, Luca can feel corruption creeping into his mind. He hasn't begun to physically change yet, but with the way he's flowed in and out of corruption lately, he's become familiar with it's shadow creeping in. The increased hunger for blood, the impulsivity, the feelings of shame and disgust with himself. The fear and paranoia. He's managing to keep it at bay, though.
He knows, of course, that he should go to his housemates to talk about it like Varian said, but it's harder once he begins to feel it's pull. Ultimately, he decides he'll try and relax. Try and get his mind off of things. Maybe try to remember various corruption remedies he might have heard or read about during his time here. And all this starts with going to the ocean.
Though he is curious about the land and loves it, at the end of the day, he is a creature of the sea and being near the ocean gives him a sense of familiarity and comfort. Besides, it's finally getting warmer. Sure, it's not warm enough yet that most people would consider it reasonable weather for a swim, but it's warm enough that the water shouldn't feel colder than a typical Ligurian winter, and seeing as he's used to being in the water year round, that means that the ocean should be just fine for him.
He's had some custom swimming attire made for just this sort of situation, since he'd been advised of the issues with regularly swimming in his clothes, and he strips down to a Victorian style swim suit and dives right in. Of course, he's had overlapping seams put in so he'd have a hidden opening for his tail, only visible when it grew in to fill the gap, so once he hits the water and changes to his sea monster form he's able to do so without damaging his clothing.
Once in the water, he begins to swim away from the shore, looking around at various objects and debris underwater, searching for anything he might be able to slip into a pocket to use for trade later, or perhaps a sea cucumber to snack on. He doesn't go far from the shore. He doesn't want to risk going too far from other people if he runs into trouble, after all. Still, he's careful to avoid fishing boats or crowded areas, and manages to avoid being spotted until he heads back to the dock to deposit his various rocks and other pretty things in one of the pockets of his discarded clothing before searching for more. That's when he spots someone looking at him.
"Oh. Um. Hi." He waits for a response, unsure of how they're going to react.
Baby shark, doo-doo, doo-doo – Closed to Reaper
He's managed to keep the corruption at bay until now, but he decides he really should go back to the house to talk about the problems he's experiencing. He gets derailed on that mission, though, when he passes Reaper's room. He doesn't know what it is at first, only that he smells something...tantalizing. He pauses by Reaper's door, taking in a deep breath, inhaling the scent. It's amazing.
At first he reasons that Reaper must have cooked something and taken it back to his room. After all, he's an amazing cook, and most of his food elicits a very similar reaction from Luca. But no, he realizes, it doesn't smell like Reaper's cooking usually does at all. It smells like blood.
Instantly concerned that Reaper might be hurt in there, Luca suddenly opens the door, "Reaper, are you--"
Then he realizes. No one is in there.
He knows it's foolish to enter Reaper's room. And yet, the smell draws him in. He can't resist it. He finds himself taking step after step further into the room. It makes sense, he assures himself, there's blood in Reaper's room and he needs to know what's going on. But that's not true and he knows it. He doesn't need to know Reaper's secret at all. He probably doesn't even want to know why there's blood in Reaper's room. He realizes as he pulls vials of blood from between the mattresses and begins to down the first one that he's only doing this because he's hungry.
Once the taste of blood fills his mouth, he doesn't even care that that's the reason. He's so lost drinking vial after vial that he doesn't even notice when Reaper returns to his room.
Salt Lake on a Full Moon Night – OTA
After the incident and....everything with Reaper, Luca realizes, as he stares at the full moon wondering what kind of monster he's become, that he needs to get this under control. Thankfully, he remembers the Salt Lake, and how he's heard it can heal corruption. It's exactly what he needs, and the idea of swimming again in the warm, pink, salty water sounds nice even just for the sake of being able to swim in it.
Soon anyone visiting the Salt Lake will find one more saltwater creature splashing around in it's waters as Luca strips down to his swimsuit and dives right in. He can already feel the weight and stress of his corruption lift as his sanity is slowly restored. Before long, from the sheer relief of it all, he finds himself laughing and leaping out of the water, chasing fish around and overall enjoying every moment of his saltwater bath.

"That doesn't sound weird at all! I mean, I'm drawn to the water, too." Obviously. "And I'm not exactly human, either."
Again, obviously, but Luca wants to emphasize how silly it would be to worry about any of that when Luca's own situation is clearly so similar. Not to mention, he's kind of curious. Besides, with those horns and tail it's already obvious that this guy isn't exactly human, anyway, but if there's a more aquatic aspect to what he is, Luca would love to learn about it. In the Trench where there are no sea monsters or anyone like him, it would be nice to learn more about people who are in a similar situation, and he wants to learn more about what this guy is.
"And maybe you are supposed to go in! And at least if you go in now while I'm here, if anything goes wrong, I'll be here to help you."
no subject
.....But he wants to be out here. Maybe it'll appease Paimon's restlessness. And maybe Peter's own, too. He bites his lip softly as he listens to the boy, and it does sound like a good idea. Especially to have someone there in case something goes wrong. There's no telling what might happen. So after a moment of thought, Peter gives a nervous little smile and nods.
"Okay... okay, yeah! I'll try it. I uh, appreciate you offering to help me."
Slowly, Peter starts to scoot over the edge of the dock, using his arms to keep himself up and then sliding into the water. It's definitely cold, his system can feel that, but it doesn't feel uncomfortable. He stays there for a few moments, holding onto the dock and letting himself get used to the water, before letting go and turning to face the boy, kicking his legs slowly to keep himself afloat.
"Feels good," he admits with a less nervous grin now. "Do you have a favourite spot you go to, to find stuff? Maybe you can show me, too."
no subject
And he's even glad to have something to show this guy...though Luca's not entirely certain he can make it there safely. He'll have to keep a close eye on him in case he gets in trouble in the water.
"I do! I don't know how you can stay underwater, though, so I don't know if you can make it there, but I can try to show you and we can turn back if it's too far!" Then, realizing he hasn't introduced himself, Luca adds, "My name's Luca, by the way."
no subject
He turns back to the boy — who introduces himself as Luca — and gives him a friendly smile. Despite everything, Peter's loosening up a bit. It's almost like the water really is unlocking something within him. "Nice to meet you, dude. I'm Peter." He moves down a bit, letting the cool water meet his mouth, nose, resting it there for a moment before lifting his head again.
"Yeah, that sounds like a plan! I'll follow you." This really is new for Peter, who usually shirks from new experiences, but this time... he's actually feeling weirdly excited??
no subject
Giddily, Luca takes off, darting away...before realizing Peter probably can't swim that fast. He pauses, surfacing and looking back to let Peter catch up before he goes further. He'll lead the way a bit at a time, he decides, so he doesn't end up too far ahead.
no subject
"If Trench ever gets a swim team, you gotta be captain."
With that, Peter starts actually swimming more than just dog paddling. His body elongagtes out, arms stretching forwards. He's nowhere on Luca's level, but he is pretty fast, given his long limbs and thin body. He's following along, gliding through the water, and the more he does it, the better it feels.
no subject
Since no human could come close to competing. Luca leads Peter to the spot he usually goes to collect things, and when he reaches it, a sudden drop off leading to deeper water.
"I'm...not sure you can actually go down there..."
It's pretty deep after all.
no subject
He continues to follow the younger until they come to a stop, Peter's long arms slowly moving through the water to keep himself afloat. He glances downwards at Luca's words, thinking about it. Something in him (it's Paimon) knows he'll be okay. He couldn't explain what it is, just... he isn't particularly worried.
"Don't worry, I'll just go down enough where it's still safe. If it seems too deep, I'll come back up."
...He has no idea that he won't need to come back up at all. Though the demon's stirring a bit more, and might end up taking over just to be on the safe side.
no subject
He'll just make sure to glance up every so often in case Peter ends up struggling. With the okay to go ahead, Luca dives down, racing to the bottom.
no subject
It's here that Peter pauses, eyes open and looking around the darkness. He hadn't realised how fast he actually ended up down here, and— there's some kneejerk little feeling of panic, for a moment. A fear that trickles in.
It lasts mere seconds, and then his eyes are calming down, the pupils expanding so that his eyes look blacker. The demon inside of him knows it can breathe underwater; it's done it before. It slowly eases into control, turning to look at Luca under the water. The boy is clearly something very powerful, and Paimon is extremely curious of him.
He swims closer with ease and tilts his head curiously, letting his feet brush the bottom. He's fine, he doesn't need air. He could stay here forever.
no subject
"How're you doing? Are you handling the water okay?"
no subject
And he slowly lifts a hand up through the water, moving his fingers a little. After a few seconds, a school of little fish come darting up close to him, and as he moves his hand, they follow it, eyes fixed on him. Guiding and controlling fish is something he already knows he can do, but he hasn't had much chance to practice it.
He glides his hand through the water again and the fish swim around Luca in a playful little swirl. Paimon's enjoying himself, and wants to show his new acquaintance that he belongs down here, too.
no subject
"Woah..." he says, impressed when the fish swim around him. Sure, he's seen fish swimming around him all the time. There were the fish they raised on his family farm, after all, but those fish had to be herded with a staff. "That's amazing! So I guess you're fine down here for as long as you want to be, huh?"
At least, he's guessing since this guy seems to have aquatic powers himself.
"That's really neat! It'll be nice having another person to swim with that won't drown."
Sure, this isn't the only person he's met that can't drown, but it's a rare enough thing that it's still a surprising treat.
no subject
He releases his hold on the fish and lets them go free, too. Though they continue to stick close to him and Luca, swimming slowly around their legs.
He's happy to have found someone to share this with, too. Back in Deerington, he'd always visited the waters alone. He's excited to see what this being has to show him, and starts swimming around more purposefully, looking around before returning his dark eyes to Luca. Treasures? He's eager to see your treasures, what things you like to collect. He wants to collect them, too.
no subject
this is so late, apologies and no worries if you want to let it go!!
He's completely fixed on them, and seems excited, energy buzzing through him. He wants to communicate to Luca that he has a collection, too...! But how? He can't speak underwater, not verbally.
He can do other things, however. The demon king turns to face his new friend, concentrating. After a moment, he conjures a vision — plays it out in Luca's mind. He shows him an attic room, dimly lit by candles. And in it are all sorts of treasures, very much like this. Things he's collected over time, like stones and glass, bits and pieces of scraps and other treasures; it's a regular magpie's nest. Some of the items have even been made into dolls.
Nope, backtags forever
When his friend is able to conjure up an image like that, Luca stares in fascination, enthralled by both the power and all the neat little things he's managed to gather. It reminds him of Alberto's tower and all the various human things he'd managed to collect there.
"That's amazing! You have so much stuff!"
no subject
He lets the image finish playing out and then it fades away, leaving him floating there next to Luca. He nods enthusiastically, and reaches for one of the boy's hands, sweeping his palm over the smaller one. After a moment, a solid golden coin appears there, shiny and heavy. It's a gift for the boy's collection, conjured by the demon king.
no subject
"Wow! That's amazing, thanks!"
no subject
His eyes brighten up again, and he gently closes the boy's fingers over the coin before withdrawing his hand and gesturing upwards towards the surface. He'd like to continue swimming and exploring, but he also wants to speak to his new companion, to properly introduce himself.
So he starts swimming back upwards, taking his time. Once he finally breaks the surface, he turns to look back at Luca as he treads water.
"Your treasures are very nice. Very pleasing. Some time, I will show you my treasures too."
no subject
"Thanks! I'd love that!"
And he really genuinely would. It'll be like when Alberto took him to his tower to show all the things he'd gathered! They'd had so much fun with all of it!
no subject
....But he pauses for a moment, as a realisation comes in. There is something to be addressed, and he doesn't want to risk frightening the sea child.
"The human you spoke to before, on the wooden boards..." (...The dock...)
"....I am someone different. I live inside of the human. His body. I can come out when I want to.... so I came out to meet you."
no subject
"Oh. Do you have a different name, then? Does he still see everything that's happening? Are you friends? How did you end up living inside a human?"
no subject
"I do. My name is Paimon."
Pronounced Pay-mun; it's an ancient name, one from some time and somewhere very different from here. Usually, the king is cautious to give out his name so easily; names have a certain power. But this being automatically has his respect, and.... perhaps something in him is more at ease around a young one. Something to the boy feels familiar, though he can't quite place what.
"He does not see. He is sleeping now. He will not remember this.
We.... are not friends. I was placed inside of him, though I do not remember why. I am trying to understand it."
He pauses, eyes liquid-dark, watching the boy's face to see how he'll react.
"I am a demon."
no subject
Even if he's confused and not really sure what all of this means for Peter, he can still be polite. Still, Luca is a bit concerned knowing Peter can't perceive any of this and that they're not friends, because he can't imagine what it would be like to have someone else living inside him that could just take over like that, especially if there wasn't any kind of friendship or bond aside from sharing that body.
Still, it sounds like Paimon didn't choose this arrangement, either. He can always ask Peter about it later to better understand what it's like for him. And maybe it's less disturbing for him to be asleep rather than watching his own body move without having any means of controlling it.
"Demon? I don't think I've ever heard that word before. What's a demon?"
