Mister Miyagi and Chozen's uncle both trained under mister Miyagi's father. [ See, he can summarize the long story.
Even if it's just by essentially taking out all the drama he isn't too sure Chozen would want to be on the table this plainly. ]
And then they taught us, even if it was on opposite sides of the world.

It isn't like he isn't looking back, but not with any skilled ability of perceiving too deeply. Moreso, it's simple curiosity, one that blinks into surprise at the tease that then comes for Mister LaRusso. Now Robby knows best where to look; just as aforementioned man is stuttering, and Robby's scoffing, showing teeth into his grin when fluster arises.
Okay, Mister Toguchi's got humour. That's always fun. He bites on the joke on his own tongue, an opportunity lost as Mister LaRusso regains composure; and now he's looking back at the other older (old) man, lifting his chin. ]
Oh? That's cool. [ His brain is ticking, glancing between the pair as, surely, the most obvious question is: ] So who'd win in a fight between you two?
[ Does he look and sound like he might be excited about the answer there... ]

I have been training to defeat Daniel-san since I was a young man. I would win.
[ All of his offers of help and his flight out to California? An elaborate, intricate ruse, his wicked intentions finally revealed - or, as his face creases with well-worn smile lines, perhaps not. ]
Because Daniel-san would go easy on me, since I am so frail, and so tired. He was a very good student. Learned respect for his elders. Not like me.
[ He drops his hand from Daniel's shoulder to his lap, hopeful the conciliatory gesture keeps Daniel from being too flustered. It is a delicate balance to strike, and one he has not yet mastered. ]
no subject
But what helps is that look on Robby's face. Since that's where Daniel is staring, especially as Robby is asking that question, and this man can definitely see that grin, and know what's going on here.
It manages to make the rest he hears from Chozen not quite as flustering, which allows Daniel to get some revenge of his own here, saying with the most dry tone possible while still directly looking at Robby: ]
He almost killed me out in the woods one time.
[ See, the mercy in this is the fact that Daniel is saying it dryly, rather than anything that makes him actually sound bothered by the fact. He could tell by that hand on his shoulder that Chozen is trying - or so he imagines, anyway, still getting used to the habits of a man he only briefly met again after decades - and so Daniel won't go too hard on him in return.
He may even give Chozen's hand a brief pat, just to indicate that it's cool.
Even if the other's idea of fun pranks definitely sucks!! ]
no subject
His gaze holds on Mister Toguchi. ]
Will you be my new sensei, then?
[ Old and frail or whatever, but could easily kill Mister LaRusso? Sure, sign Robby up, he's here for this.
There's no honour here. Sorry, Mister LaRusso! ]
no subject
He sees no evidence, which is only further conclusive proof of their deviousness. ]
Oh, it was not so bad.
[ He didn't almost kill Daniel, he only let him think he was about to be killed. Very different, very critical distinction. ]
I said already - because he went easy on me. If he had been serious, I would have been the one almost killed!
[ He turns more fully towards Daniel, hands propped on his knees and elbows spread out in lieu of setting his hands on his hips, shaking his head with nearly as much concern as disapproval. ]
Or did you forget fight before that? [ It was very dramatic. ] You should stick with old sensei, Robby-san. Some old things are worth keeping.
[ Is he almost smug at that pronouncement? Perhaps a little. ]
no subject
But that doesn't mean that the man doesn't react way too genuinely to the tease all the same. And not even in the sort of way where he's playing along with it. No, Daniel seems a little worried and offended at the same time anyway, his jaw dropping as he stares at the boy. R-Robby, d-don't you care about sensei anymore?? H-Hello??
Even by the time Chozen turns to him so fully that Daniel can't help but look at the other man instead, it still lingers about him. Just a hint of a kicked puppy look in his eyes. Teenagers are way too effective at destroying old men's hearts.
.. though Chozen's sweet reassurance - about Robby, not about the situation Daniel brought up, because that definitely was that bad - is doing a lot to melt the kicked puppy look a little bit over here. The mention of the fight before that met with a brief touch of a hand on Chozen's upper arm before Daniel turns to look at the teen again. ]
Chozen is going to be teaching at the dojo too anyway.
[ Something they did already discuss before Robby entered the room. ]
So you'll be able to learn from him too. [ B-But not totally forget your old sensei, right? R-Robby??? Some validation, please?
And as he glances back over at Chozen, he adds: ] And he's really good at some things I'm weaker at, so it'll be a real help.
no subject
By ranking, Robby is surely the least serious of them all in this room.
But listen to Mister Toguchi get his own back in old things, though it sounds like from Mister LaRusso that any plans of switching teams (a third time) is unnecessary. He'll huff a conceding 'Okay', knocking the front of a foot against the floor idly and hands shoving away into his pockets. ]
Well, if you wanna have another death match before classes, I'll watch. But I guess Mister LaRusso should catch you up on everything about this place. [ He looks from Mister Toguchi to Mister LaRusso. ] You need any help? Or want me to get anything in town?
[ Since they've got a guest or...friend guest? Maybe he'll want to shove some things in Mister Toguchi's direction. A pillow? ]
no subject
Chozen relents. How could he not, after having his faux-ruffled pride soothed? Besides: there is a very important consideration that must still be addressed, and Robby has so helpfully presented the opportunity to bring it up. ]
Yes. [ He steeples his fingers together, leaning forward with a wide smile nearly fit to match Robby's. ] I had to leave new couch on beach. Blue, tufted suede, very expensive - very heavy.
[ And does Daniel make his students carry heavy furniture? Chozen thinks not. He will beat these student-stealing allegations one way or the other. ]
First lesson: organize with other students, bring couch here - and lift with knees, not with back.
[ This is definitely more than a little self-satisfied. Truly, one of the best parts of teaching is the delegation. He leans back on the couch already here, which, while not uncomfy, is certainly not $2000 of comfy. ]
But tomorrow, not today.
[ He had talked one of the vendors into loaning him a tarp, and he is almost sure there will be barely any crabs or birds in it after so little time as one night. It would be rude to send Robby back into the cold on short notice after he only just arrived home to a stranger in his dojo. ]
no subject
Sure, Daniel showed up with an entire car, but at least that car had meaning!
Still, the man manages to surpress the surprise that comes to him instinctively. Mostly because he doesn't quite want it to show up on his face.
So he can instead show Robby the exact same look the boy gave him a moment ago, if Robby bothers to look at Daniel for help at all. A lift of his brow, the impression of an innocent what? in turn.
You're the one who wanted a new sensei, Robby. There you go. Now you signed up for this. The opportunity is too perfect to not turn the tease right back around on Robby. ]
no subject
Here Robby was, thinking he was doing Mister LaRusso a nice favour for his good old pal, and suddenly there's a-- a couch? Which is somewhere in the land of cars showing up in Trench upon a person's arrival. Robby listens to Mister Toguchi with confusion, not quite understanding despite the directions. 'Organize with other students, bring couch here.'
He's being bossed into carrying a couch? Now those aspirations for a killer sensei are down and dead, and Robby feels the true cut of betrayal as he turns his incredulous expression onto Mister LaRusso--only to be met with what should be a familiar expression.
Except he rarely has it staring back at him, you see.
There's a lurch of indignation, Robby shitty chores Keene wanting to protest this dumb labour plan. But he won't be defeated, folding his arms. ]
Fine, I'll do it. [ Midoriya? He can ask Midoriya, he's super strong. There's also--oh.
A smug smile creeps onto his face. ] We'll have it done in no time. No problem. [ A lift of his chin. ] I'll leave you two to it.
[ He's texting Mob as soon as he leaves this room!!! ]
no subject
(He is certainly not amused at the ruffling of Robby's feathers, or the so very teenaged affront in his appeal to Daniel. That would be beneath his dignity as the far older party. He surely never allowed his own face to go through such contortions as a hot-headed young man.)
He waits until Robby is almost out of earshot before he turns to face Daniel once more, and when he speaks, he is clearly one of those old men whose hearing is going and who cannot measure their volume. There is absolutely nothing to joke about when it comes to: ]
It is two thousand dollar couch. Price gouging by American businessmen, very serious matter of honour. You understand.
no subject
When did you even buy a couch in Cali--
[ It's only then that his own thought is interrupted by the fact that oh right, Chozen is speaking that loudly since Robby can still hear it, and it's actually Robby who Daniel was on the same level with a moment ago, since he definitely caught on to the boy's plan.
And he still has something to remark about that before Robby leaves entirely. ]
Wait-- Robby, don't let Shigeo overdo it! [ So he calls that after the boy, no matter whether Robby is actually still leaving the room or not.. Look, it's not too hard to imagine where Robby's mind was going with that look on his face. And it was either Mob or Midoriya whose powers Robby was probably planning on enlisting for this cause, and Daniel knows who Robby seems closer to between those two. ]
