Anyone ever has.
At least Mister LaRusso is taking some of the work of the aftermath away and off his shoulders. But Robby rises too, a little awkward in its speed, his bag held in his hands. ]
Uh--I got something for you. And Mister Toguchi? Or just the house. I'll put them in the kitchen. [ For the hurried rise and need to speak, Robby does slow, and if Mister LaRusso look at him, he'll give him an awkward smile. ] I got some soup mugs with lids. Thought they looked cool.
[ It was imperative that he shared this news with Mister LaRusso......... ]

[ Never say Daniel isn't good at smoothing things over when he tries. He knows that he can't take away all potentially complicated or awkward feelings from the boy right now, but the least he can do is show that he means what he said.
That - if Robby doesn't want it to - nothing will change.
Which means that the man seems relatively casual here, despite everything. There's genuine interest in that little 'oh', and he smiles at Robby after, stepping over like he's trying to peer into the bag, but then seeming to think better of that last part. ]
You want to show me in the kitchen? I'm curious now. [ And at least the entire Robby constantly buying things for him and the house thing feels a lot less weird now Daniel has realised it's probably a blood effect.. especially since Robby isn't the only one doing it.
Daniel is already stepping over in the direction of the kitchen as he speaks on. ]
Or is this your way of saying I should see if I can scrape together some soup for dinner tonight? [ It's all relatively casual. On the side of jovial, even, with that smile that lingers on Daniel's face. ]

Is it still soup if you have pasta in it? Like minestrone. [ Oh, Robby sounds proud for remembering that one. Isn't that the pasta soup? Because yes, Robby loves chunky stuff in his soup.
But coming into the kitchen, Robby goes to the nearby counter and brings out
twono THREE soup mugs!! They're cute and dandy with their little lids, a slip of colour around the rim of the lid and bottom of the cups revealing what Robby shows as he opens them up: their insides have their own colours, in a blue, green, and turquoise. ]Nice, huh?
[ Look at him, Mister LaRusso, looking so pleased but also watching you, waiting on your reaction with hope...!! A tad shy too, but that isn't stopping him from standing in anticipation. ]

Of course it is! Minestrone basically means soup in Italian. [ Random Italian facts you learn when you hang out with your Italian-American karate teacher..
He does present it like it's a Fun Fact though, something interesting but brief, because Daniel's attention goes entirely towards the actual gift once Robby takes out the mugs. The man is already taking one of them into his hands, lifting it into the air and taking a good look at it. With Robby watching Daniel's reaction so carefully, it's most likely easy to tell that the man is rather pleased by their look.
It is Daniel's aesthetic, after all. Completely so. You know a nerd like him loves things that look so simple and minimalistic yet handmade.. The sort of things mister Miyagi would've liked.
It makes the smile on his face very genuine once he tears his gaze off the mug enough to look over at Robby. ]
They are nice. I really like them. [ G-Getting praise for gifts on main? Someone hold Robby before he explodes.
Especially since Daniel certainly isn't helping matters by the way he leans over to press a hand to Robby's shoulder, the smile on his face fond but teasing as he adds: ]
Three of them though, huh? Sounds like someone wants to live here with his sensei forever.
[ J-Just a joke, Robby! You can go whenever you want.. or when things are patched up with Tory.. S-Sensei will be okay, c-clearly...
He's trying to make it very much sound like a light joke on purpose though, okay. Just so Robby won't experience sudden pressure, especially after their serious talk. ]

But yes, the approval really does hit Robby like it's on main, like a brightness to his person, the widening of the smile already on his face. Truly, Robby should have just been giving Mister LaRusso his gifts to begin with? They would have both been happier for it, Robby only looking away briefly in that shy manner when the man touches his shoulder.
B-but, huh, that joke does hit differently with the conversation that preceded it. At least Robby has a quick enough answer, looking at the three mugs before back at Mister LaRusso: ] You planning on keeping Mister Toguchi around too?
[ In this scenario where Robby is going to live here forever. ]

I don't think anything I'd say could get him to leave.
[ At least that's a joke too. Or rather - it's the truth, since Daniel is pretty sure about Chozen insisting on staying close to him with all the danger around here. The joke is the very idea of Daniel even considering throwing Chozen out in the first place.
Though something shifts a little after he says that. The jokeyness of it all fades away, replaced by something more sincere. The kind of saccarine sincerity that most people would cringe at the idea of throwing around so casually, yet Daniel always does it like it's part of his nature. ]
I think having you and Chozen here in the house made this month turn into the best one I've experienced here so far. [ Sure, it's not ideal. Daniel doesn't like the circumstances that got Robby here in the first place, for one. And it's not like February has been entirely without danger.
But the massive amount of roses that have been blooming around Daniel's door are there for a reason, directly reflecting the man's heart. ]
I really treasure you guys' company.
[ You'd think Daniel was a paleblood this month, with the way he's talking, and him smiling fondly as he stares over at the soup mugs again.. But, fool, he doesn't need a blood effect to be sappy!! ]
no subject
Now who's trying to keep who around forever? [ He chooses jokes before following his sensei's lead in this, but he's glad that he's been able to make the man happy. Even if he isn't sure how long he'll be staying, if his feelings can be called the same--when everything is far complicated for him than he'd like any of it to be, but.
Well, it doesn't change that he does appreciate Mister LaRusso. ...and his food. ]
If I do stay here, [ and it starts as a joke, keeps as one, obvious by his tone and that wrinkle to his nose he gets when he bobs his head, ] --I'm gonna go through with an idea I had of stealing the house next door so we can have a bigger yard. And an exercise room. I told Mob we should have a gym.
[ You know, as you do. ]

[ He laughs softly, putting the soup mug he was holding back onto the counter, just so he can instead fully turn his attention towards the boy standing next to him. It's good to see something that Daniel interprets as mirth in the other's eyes after that kind of awkward conversation from a few moments ago. ]
I get it. I'm creating a monster by letting you stay here. [ Because Robby is - as always - too ingenious for his own good, obviously. That's the joke here, the thing that makes their lips curl up in this moment as they look at each other. ] Before anyone knows it, you'll have the entire neighbourhood converted into one big dojo.
[ Whereas Daniel clearly has tiny dreams.
Like having soup together with his not!son and rival #2. ]
no subject
But jokes aside, Robby taps the side of the counter with his forefingers, a look taken at the mugs and some other jars. ] Did you want any help with anything in here? Or can I go and make the layout plans?
[ He'd say 'in his room', but you know what, Mister LaRusso can likely get what he means. Would he like some help, or should Robby go and do his thing?
(That isn't actually planning to expand the dojo.) ]

This doesn't have that same edge to it though. Sure, the attitude is similar, but there's a bit less seriousness in it.
(Or maybe it's just that Daniel didn't just spend an entire tournament seeing that boy look at his father over and over and over again with a certain vindication that felt sour in Daniel's mouth.)
So he just smiles the joke off here. ]
Nah, it's alright. I got it. [ He did mean it when he said that he wanted Robby to have some time to think about their earlier conversation, after all - and it might be good to let him have some of that now, instead of continuing to awkwardly hoover around Robby. ] You go get busy.
[ You know.
With the "dojo plans." ]
And prepare yourself for some delicious minestrone tonight.

And maybe, you know, think about what happened before the talk of minestrone and soup cups. Something about Mister LaRusso seeing him as a son, and what that actually means.
(He talked to his dad about it, too? What do the two of them talk about, even?)
What does it mean, when a man sees you like a son? Says he sees you like one, no different from his own children--because that seems hard to believe, that anyone ever could. It's the comfortable lie you tell those younger than you to make them feel included, surely.
(Mister LaRusso called him part of the family once before, and Robby knows he shouldn't hold the past against him; but it's not him he holds it against, but himself. Because didn't it sound so nice? Didn't it feel it? Living in that spare room turned bedroom, hanging out with Sam and eating family meals.)
What does he do about the parts of himself that Mister LaRusso doesn't know about? The same as he should everything else, Robby concludes, staring off at every other wall. Twitching the coldblood bracelet around his wrist, as if it and his heart don't complicate his feelings enough.
Take Mister LaRusso's word that this doesn't change anything, and see how far that gets him.
Because that's sure going to work. ]
