The cold weather of November and light brush of snow has smothered the streets well into chillier mornings come December, and only threatening to layer more the deeper into the month it gets. For now, the snow it...somewhat manageable; shovelled and pressed down from the busier streets by foots and hooves, and the market stalls are determined by how daring the sellers are feeling, and if luck is on their side.
Mostly, it's the time of the month when you have better luck owning a store front, putting out a light that you're accepting customers, and hope they come to you for the month.
A certain group is. Or a certain group will try. Heading to their meeting spot in the Wilful Machine is at least easy when using lamp travel, meeting them at the canals that will certainly lose their business for the month and the water freezes. Some busy work was done beforehand to find out potential visits that would be keeping their doors open, and to gather a variety in selection for tastes to be explored. After all, how can you know what you like when you don't have options?
CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES
→ The catalogues have been changed to match the season, cloaks and warming outfits illustrated in their pages, with some examples on display and available on a rack, if you can fit into them. Tailors are all too happy to help in sharing how they can offer different colours, certain bloodstones to add warmth, or to make certain cloaks lighter, but no less effective in keeping off the cold; and oh, are you thinking about secret compartments for your blades? There's plenty.
There's always something for everyone: modest skirt-pants, turtle-neck dresses, stylised jackets, and even more colourful options. And are we going to miss out on the boots and more boots shopping? Please. Don't forget to accessorise too, from necklaces, bracelets, and whatever else might catch your eye.
HAIR, NAILS, AND SKIN
→ Finding the right outfit is good, but we can't forget the other essentials in dressing up: Yourself. Getting your hair recoloured on the spur of a day out might be too much--or, is it? There's options, from short buzz cuts to examples of what's in fashion. Some products even have paleblood in it to give hair that extra wow in the dark (and you bet hey loved the glow of the blood last month!). The same goes for the nail polishes, the selections ranging from bright to night-black to luminous. Those who offer nail products also offer to do nails right there, and even with a hand massage; and even those who will do your make-up will throw in a relaxing facial beforehand, if you find the right spot (and are willing to barter the right goods).
There's no one style for all in these establishments, with the only limits being what you dare to try and your imagination. Feeling gender-neutral today? Well, aren't you in luck.
FOOD, DRINKS, AND DANCE
→ There's the cafés along the way during this day out that may catch one's (or a few) eyes for a quick drink to warm one up, a certain smell to draw a person in (is that freshly cooked herby bread? Heck yes). But as the day goes on, the night drawing in earlier these days, there is a place to put an end to this shopping trip (and once purchases have been securely put away): dinner, drinks, and a floor for dance. People are free to come and go as they please with the group, but there's a table waiting for any to come in a nice cosy tavern, for people to show up again in their newer outfits, should they please. It's a good time for chatting, relaxing, to do it off their feet; to get rosy off some drink if that's their flavour.
And then the end of it will take them to one last stop: into Cellar Door. Their cheeks might be freezing by the time they get there, but the dance clubs are always warm and alive, buzzing as soon as you walk in. It might be busy on the dance-floor, but there's booths available, spots where those unused to the activity can get up their courage, ... or take advantage of the very pretty drinks they serve here.
Maybe it's not your scene, or you can give anything a go once -- in the end, what matters is that you had fun.
( ooc: hey gang, hope this write-up helps with making toplevels!! please feel free to bring up any fashions or styles, the above pics were just examples. There's no real set places being visited, and your character doesn't have to be around for every single thing. 👍👍 )

2B takes it easy and simple when looking over clothes and high-heeled boots (only high heels). she's not deeply enthralled with finding something that she likes, found mostly observing how the other woman act. not that she should act like them, but— it reminds her that they're quite different from each other. she doesn't even know what she should be looking for beyond a dress that isn't much different from her own, or maybe . . . ah, here. for moments and moments on end, 2B may be found staring at shirts with short sleeves, stuffed all the way in the back of the shop's stocks. it's not hot enough for summer trims, but even so— it's what she finally reaches out for, to touch a black laced blouse with a lingering, tentative fondness.
make up and nails—? hand massages? 2B only watches at a bit of a distance for this one, folding her hands over her front and not exactly . . . interested? she's not interested. it's supposed to make you look more beautiful, she knows, but it's not a priority for her. much less allow someone to massage her hands, her primary tool for work, or paint her nails (something with no purpose other than aesthetic, plus she uses gloves more often than not. painting them would lose purpose quickly). mantinova eggs her on and she seems to ignore until the insect is practically begging you to get 2B to try it.
at least, when it comes to getting hair done, there's a bit more interest shown, in the fact that she actually looks at the activity going on for more than a few seconds at a time. it reminds her of the girls she saw braiding their hair in trench's darkest dimension. she'll only allow a bit of a trim, down from a bob to a pixie cut. the colors are . . . well, catching, especially a clean pastel purple that she seems to eye with more intention than the others. when it comes to glow-in-the-dark colors though, 2B shakes her head and rejects. no.
no! she'd much prefer to look at floral headbands.
oh, and what of drink and dance? you've guessed correctly in assuming that 2B will just fall back as an observer rather than someone taking part. she has quite the aura. there may be just one thing that she hovers towards out of rare indulgence, and that is something daniel taught her: tea. warm beverages, although this time there's no tea. either cocoa or cider is on the menu.
she's . . . considering :O!!!! ]
no subject
You know, that one would look pretty cool.
[she points to a dark floral band with some plum and lavender tones in it.]
Especially if you decide on the purple hair.
no subject
How does something look "cool" is temperature is felt?
[ how does this anomoly occur???? ]
no subject
[wait, was that---
---that might not have been a joke, whoops. okay. how to explain "cool", a bit of a gear shift. how would viktor do it?]
It means you'd look magnificent. That's what we're here for, yeah?
[not that she doesn't already look ...great, but it's supposed to be a change-up, right? she's not sure why 2b would want to change anything about her look. ...oh, and now she's staring.]
no subject
What was funny?
no subject
I thought you were joking or being sarcastic when you said the thing about temperature. But you weren't, right?
'Cool' is sometimes something people say when they mean 'magnificent' or 'impressive', or a bunch of other ways to say they like something, or that it looks good.
You should try it on.
no subject
Am I 'cool'?
no subject
You certainly look cool, yeah. And if you're friends with Robby, then that's an automatic slide up the general coolness scale.
It almost gives the suggestion of purple to your hair, and you haven't even colored it. I love your hair, by the way. It's such a good color. And also cool, but in the more literal sense. It's cool-toned.
[just in case there's confusion, she points to a coppery haired mannequin head that's showcasing some glimmery clips and barrettes.] That one's warm toned. [god. she's talking about hair again.]
The most important part though: what do you think of it?
no subject
she doesn’t know what to think, but she wants to think something. she already may be feeling it, but she cannot put it to words so easily. feeling was already a leap she struggled with, even when emotions waved around like violent flags at times.
quietly, she raises a hand to the fallen side bangs of her hair and strokes a strand. ]
. . . I’d like a part of it purple. [ that’s not what she thought about it, and after a pause, her lips pressing on and off together in the internal struggle to really deal with expression— ] I . . . May. Like it.
[ 🫣 ]
no subject
but the other looks unperturbed, so she can't know the !!! beneath the seemingly calm surface. vi's face is all interest (and excitement) when 2b speaks.]
They can do any part of it that you want purple. Do you know where you want it?
[would she like to look at the selection of purples in this booklet? here is vi, being very helpful. she thinks. she pauses at that last part, though.]
You're not sure if you like the band?
no subject
god there was just so much purple? so many tones in a single book! one look at the inside of the booklet made her gut instinct kick to look away, and then . . . the first purple . . .
no. she flips pages, one after another until she comes across the first hue to her liking that she stares down upon for the longest time: a warm shade of lavender. ]
I have one already.
[ the black band in her hair at the very moment— although it’s quite bland for this shopping spree’s standards. honestly, 2B just doesn’t know what indulgence is too well. ]
no subject
Grab that one [a nod to the purple band in question] and then you'll have two.
You can switch it up whenever you want.
no subject
perhaps it’s the same sort of indulgence, same as the clothes— she takes the one with a flower’s bloom frozen in time pinned at the side of the band. ]
Is “indulgence” considered “living”?
no subject
[she'd consider her childhood in the undercity indulgent compared to stillwater. but she thinks about what might count as indulgent to sansa, to robby, to caitlyn. there's a wide range, there.]
Is that what it is for you? Two headbands?
no subject
A t-shirt. [ . . . ] And watching someone fish.
no subject
Both of those things are pretty cool, yeah. Especially the fishing.
[vi picks up a headband, turns it over in her hands - it's out of her usual comfort zone, but 2b's hair isn't that much longer than vi's longest parts.
the crystal dragonflies on it give her pause - they're like butterflies but not enough that she thinks too long on it before setting it atop her head - just a little crooked, and taking a look in the mirror before turning back to 2b.]
Maybe?
perhaps we can start wrapping here!
It looks, [ hrm, ] nice.
[ despite how awkwardly delivered it was, she wishes to mean it. ]
sure! (forever later because oops a sick)
Ya think? Well, you've got good taste [a general wave in the direction of 2b's whole ensemble] so I'll trust you on this. I've got a reputation as a badass to uphold.
[she says. with a nest of sparkling dragonflies in her hair. sansa's holiday gift. or ...one of them: found right here in this shop.]
