A Sith Lord and a Disney Princess walk into a bar... (Closed)
Who: Darth Maul and Snow White
What: Maul meets Snow White and watches her charm a particularly dangerous animal.
When: Early October
Where: Random street in Trench
Content Warnings: None!
Maul had seen the Nightmare Steed around the city a few times now. It was impossible to mistake the stallion for any of its brethren given the magnificent mane and tail it had plus its sheer size. He'd become fascinated by the beast and was determined to find out more about it. However, Deerington having taught him a lesson, he figured that he should do this slowly and cautiously. After all, between those giant hooves and that lethal horn, he didn't want his first death in this place to come from being gored by a horned horse.
So he'd decided to start with a simple experiment. Tracking the horse's movements, he'd gathered up the supplies he needed. Then he put several piles of food in its path, including fruits, vegetables, bread, cooked meat, and raw meat. He wanted to see what kind of diet such a creature would eat. He waited around a corner, ready to take off if the horse saw him and charged. He waited until the Nightmare Steed came plodding down the street, looking like he was completely fearless.
Maul was so focused on the stallion that he barely noticed when someone came up from behind him. He barely glanced at the young girl, merely putting a finger to his lips. "Keep quiet. I'm trying to see what he's going to do next." The stallion was almost upon the piles of food and Maul went back to watching him intently.

Ah.
When he continued she smiled.
"I didn't have any caretakers that were people either," she offered. "People were forbidden from speaking to me or even really acknowledging my existence or else they would be severely punished by the queen. That's why animals were my only friends growing up. So then are you very fond of droids?"
no subject
"I suppose it depends upon the droid in question." He was as fond of them as he was of everyone else he met, which meant not very given Maul's natural personality. Maul blinked in surprise at what Snow White told him. That....sounded like an oddly familiar tale to his ears given his own lonely upbringing. "Why did the queen forbid people from talking to you? Did you have no siblings or parents?"
no subject
At his question, she leaned against the stallion and was silent for a moment.
"Oh, the queen is my mother, she's my stepmother," she offered, moving to hug the horse around his neck. "I don't really know why people were forbidden to speak to me or help me. But I didn't want people thrown in the dungeons for such things. So I just learned to manage as best I could! I think I managed alright. But no, I didn't have any siblings."
no subject
"I understand. My adoptive father....he was a very cold, cruel man." He normally didn't share even that much with people he'd just met but Snow seemed very sweet and innocent. It was hard to imagine someone like that using anything he told her against him later on. "It left me with a lot of anger in my hearts."
That was the understatement of the century but Maul wasn't about to launch into the details of his sad life right off the bat with the girl.
no subject
"And I'm even more sorry to hear how angry it left you and your heart," oh wait, he said hearts, "hearts, I mean."
She reached out and placed a gentle hand atop Maul's arm.
"But hopefully, now, you can be allowed to be happier! That's what I truly believe. After all, if they are not here, then in a way, by making sure I'm happy and going on with my life, I'm doing what they would like least!" she smiled. "Not that I wish to be so unkind to my stepmother. I think she has a deep sadness in her, which is why she acts the way she does. No one is born cruel, after all."
She looked at the stallion for a moment and then back to Maul. She was not nearly so closed lipped about her life as Maul was.
"You know, I remind myself all the time that I'm the one who can fill the world with sunshine. So whenever I'm upset, I sing! What do you do when you're upset?"
no subject
There was a strange look in Maul's eyes as he stared at Snow. "I...never thought of things like that before." In his own galaxy, he'd been afraid to be happy, knowing that Sidious could and frequently did take it away just to make his apprentice miserable. But he was far away and would eventually die if what Luke had told him was true. So perhaps he could dare to be happy here without having to worry. "I'm not so sure about that. My father-- there is nothing in him that is loving or kind and never has been. I think he has always been that way." Given Sidious had killed his entire family when he was young in his mad quest for power, there was nothing he wouldn't do in order to become the most powerful Sith ever to rule in the galaxy.
Maul's brow crinkles as he thinks of what he likes to do. "Well, I tend to fight people when I am upset." It gets all his foul energies out and directs them into something that he's good at. But he thinks Snow might not like that answer, so he does have a back-up one. "Or meditate so that I can center myself in the Dark Side of the Force. When I am deep in meditation, it feels like nothing can touch me there, connected as I am to all life."
no subject
"Mmm, that's alright if you haven't," when Maul spoke of his father, she gave a small nod. "I'm sorry for him, then," she sighed. "Someone without love or kindness, who can't share it either, they seem the unhappiest people of all."
Snow White listened as he spoke, her eyes widening and she couldn't help but giggle. "You like to fight? Oh, Grumpy did too! But he also enjoyed music, he was an amazing organ player! He was very good at fighting too, and very protective. He'd often fight with the other dwarfs though usually good-naturedly. Well... usually!" she giggled again.
"But oh, how nice, I've never meditated before! And what a wonderful feeling, to be connected to all living things!"
no subject
The fact she knew someone named Grumpy didn’t sound at all to the Sith Lord. After all, his own name was Maul, so that sounded like a perfectly normal name for someone to have by Dathomirian standards. “He sounds like someone I would get along with quite well. I’ve been attempting to find a way to channel that fighting spirit here so that it is not simply destructive.” Some of his friends had suggested he start protecting other Sleepers but Maul wasn’t quite to the point of being able to care about the well-being of others enough to want to protect them.
“Meditation isn’t easy for all but it is something that I greatly encourage people to try at least once. One can find out things about themselves they might not have otherwise while practicing it.”
no subject
"I'm sure you would! Though... he might not say as much! But let's see! Using what you like to do in something not destructive, you say?" she tapped her lips in thought and turned to the horse.
"What do you think, dear? Any ideas for our new friend?" The horse looked at Maul and snorted, deeply amused about HIM being able to fight let alone be destructive but he clearly didn't voice it because he turned back to Snow and let out a soft whinny and shook his head.
"OH! Now that's certainly an idea!" she turned to Maul. "Perhaps you can become a woodsman! People always need lumber for something and it can be very tasking!"
Of course, that wasn't QUITE what the horse suggested, he more or less said something along the lines of 'maybe he should get lost in the woods' but Snow White being... well, Snow White, took it for being positive.
"Or perhaps you can be a knight or guard! Might any of those sound like something you would want to do?"
no subject
Maul thought over the suggestions of Snow White. Honestly, going out to the woods somewhere and just hacking up a bunch of trees into kindling with an axe was probably one of the healthier suggestions he'd heard to help with his anger management issues. "I don't think I have enough of a noble nature to be a knight, not from the ones I already know personally--" His lips twitched though as he thought of the two Jedi Knights in town. Obi-Wan certainly was the epitome of one, but if Anakin was where the standards were set, maybe Maul could have made a go at being a knight after all.
"But a guard....hmmmm, perhaps there might be merit in such an idea. Keeping people safe is not something I have done much but I am sure I would be good at it." The few times his friends had asked for his help in taking care of a physical problem like a monster, Maul had utterly obliterated it.

The Nightmare Steed is just outright LAUGHING at Maul now.
Snow lightly bopped the horse on the nose with a finger.
"Now now, don't be mean. We have to support Maul with his dream!"
no subject
Instead, he focused on what Snow was saying. “I shall definitely have to consider it. I’ve never been one much for protecting people but I have always been a very good warrior. Anyone who needs something wicked defeated should come to me, for I can destroy almost anything when I put my mind to it.” That part at least was the truth. Maul had been meant to be an assassin but maybe in this new city he could become more of a protector of people instead of their destroyer.
no subject
"In any case, I shall have to keep that in mind too! But thankfully, I don't need anything destroyed! Oh...Well, I suppose maybe the poison apple."
no subject
"You have a poison apple?" Huh, that was odd. But possibly a very useful creation to have around all things considered with how dangerous things could be in Trench.
no subject
"Someone's being shy all of a sudden," she giggled, gently patting the horse's neck.
At Maul's question, she nodded.
"Oh yes, my stepmother used it on me just before I came here. That's why I thought this was the afterlife! I was very sure I was dead!" her smile became a bit smaller. She shook her head. "It's a magic poison apple, you see. It's been months and it's still as red and pretty as the day I bit into it. Not even where I bit it is brown or turned. I had to lock it away."
no subject
"Interesting," was all Maul could manage at first. He wasn't even thinking of how having a poison apple around could be useful. Mostly, he was just thinking of what kind of woman would be so cruel as to poison their daughter when she was someone as kind as Snow White. Granted, Sidious had tried to kill him many times over the course of his life but never quite so bluntly as to poison him. Mostly, he just put Maul into circumstances that he was sure he wasn't going to be able to survive and then sat back to watch what would happen. "I'm sure my father would have tried to kill me if I hadn't been useful to him." That's why he'd taken Maul captive, to lure out Talzin and dismantle his criminal empire. Fortunately for Maul, things hadn't quite gone according to plan.
no subject
She's never HAD it, but it's what she wanted.
no subject
"Perhaps we shall both find what we are looking for here in this city," Maul mused. After all, he had so many people now who cared for him here in Trench, and wasn't that what he'd always wanted at his core? In her own way, it seemed that Snow White was looking for that too.
no subject
"And that's the spirit!" she smiled. "I always remind myself that I'm the one who can fill the world with sunshine! It's gotten me through so many things, and I always manage somehow."
no subject
Maul straightened up just a little bit at the girl's words. While he thought her another naïve optimist, he couldn't bring himself to tear Snow down the way he often did with such types. Part of Maul couldn't believe that. Hmph, he was starting to get soft with people. Or maybe just soft in the head, he wasn't sure which.
"I think I have had enough of dealing with our friend over there." Maul nodded to the Nightmare Steed. "Would you like to get some lunch with me?" He was growing rather fond of Snow even on such short acquaintance and was more than happy to learn more about her during a long conversation over eating something like sausages.
no subject
At the question of lunch, Snow White smiled brightly.
"Oh! That would be lovely! I can certainly take time out of my day to have lunch with a new friend!"
The Nightmare Steed seemed to be offended that Snow White was leaving and she stroked his side. "Oh now, don't worry, I'll be back tomorrow with food for you and your big brother. Aren't I always?" she giggled and pressed a kiss to the horse's nose and he seemed to be appeased.
Wrap!
"Goodbye," he said, waving to the Nightmare Steed in a flippant manner as he walked off with the girl. The horse snorted at him, and if a scowl could have appeared on his muzzle, it would have. This wasn't over between the two of them. Next time, it was going to be much more brutal without a Disney Princess there to mediate between the Sith Lord and the Nightmare Steed.
